Have You Been to the Museum?January 11, 2016

Students go to the museum, which is a field trip of sort. Don't be surprised if many of them don't have fond memories of it. You must be interested in the past in able to appreciate what is found there. Not even Young-adult (YA) novels, where numerous chapters describe the exciting features of the museum, won't prompt youngsters to go there. But International Museum Day can change their minds.

If you're a student, then you don't have to force yourself to the museum. And you must not wait for your next trip. Museum will take you back to the distant past. It reveals a lot about your hometown, even your ancestors. You tend to take it for granted, but imagine a world without museums. It will be a frightening thought, as you don't have something to look back. This won't give you any clue on how to look towards the future. This is the job of a historian, which you might find boring. Can you try to imagine it? This can be too much, but try to visualise the scenario.

International Museum's Day, which falls on May 18, highlights the importance of museum in modern society. (Everyone knows it.) The event also put emphasis on its relevance. How? You don't have to think long and hard. Let's have a look:

Museum can be a joyride. Lectures in the classroom can be boring at times. And you have a short-attention span. There's no guarantee that your attitude will change once you enter the museum's premises. A change of scenery can help, though. Your curiosity will pique your interest; you may not get the chance to see a live dinosaurs, but the skeletal remains will startle you. Some artifacts will draw your attention, while others won't merit a second look. But you're already there. Why not take another look? You may see something that you overlook before. You won't look at the museum the same way again.

Museum brings out the adventurer in you. Those who have seen the "Night in the Museum" trilogy will attest to it. The fans of Indiana Jones will gladly recount their favourite scene. It's likely that your parents have brought you to the museum. (It can be during one of those weekends.) You may not figure out its importance, but you'll remember it when it's long over. And you'll yearn for it. The reason is something that can be found inside (the museum).

Museum makes you aware of your heritage. It's important to know the past, as it can be catastrophic otherwise. There have been many happenings that will erase doubts. If you're not interested in it, then you only need to take another look. You'll remember the images sooner or later.
